Corporations opening their books on where they pay tax would also help the fight against corrupt practices by tax administrations, an accountant told those at a conference Thursday.
Speaking at an event hosted by Accountancy Europe, an umbrella group of accounting professionals, Eelco van der Enden, chair of the organization’s tax policy group, said that as times change, practices in corporate tax that once were acceptable are no longer.
Greater scrutiny into companies’ taxes shouldn’t be viewed solely as a way to shed light on the practices of large companies, he said; it could put pressure on corrupt tax administrations as well.
