Towards a SIU: are we on track?

Launched in March 2025, the Savings and Investments Union (SIU) strategy has already translated into the publication of major legislative proposals, which are now under discussion in the European Parliament and the Council. The SIU strategy sets a clear direction by removing internal barriers and leveraging Europe’s greatest strength—the Single Market—to deliver more integrated banking and capital markets.

Spanning the full investment chain, from retail investment accounts and pensions to market infrastructures and supervision, the Commission has adopted a welcome holistic approach.

With important proposals currently on the table of the co-legislators and potentially more to come, this event will provide an opportunity to take stock of the different components of the SIU strategy, examine how they fit together, and exchange views on how to achieve our shared objectives: a more competitive and resilient Europe, better able to finance the EU’s strategic priorities and businesses, while increasing wealth for individuals.

Chaired by three Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from the Intergroup Bureau: Stine BosseIsabel Benjumea and Dirk Gotink, this unique event will feature a keynote speech from Commissioner in charge of Financial Services and the Savings and Investments Union, Maria Luís Albuquerque. The event will bring together key public and private decision-makers to discuss their expectations and perspectives on the SIU.

Speakers include:

  • Eelco van der Enden, CEO, Accountancy Europe
  • Adam Farkas, CEO, The Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME)
  • Laura van Geest, Chair, Dutch Financial Markets Authority
  • Gorka Gonzalez Garcia, Head of Retail, BPI France
