Digitalisation brings both opportunities and challenges to the economy.
It offers the opportunities for tax authorities to use Big Data analytics and Artificial Intelligence to fight against tax avoidance and fraud. Using new technologies also provides a more streamlined and efficient experience for taxpayers. Conversely, digitalised business models challenge the ability of tax authorities to protect their tax base. Taxpayers must find a way to deal with these challenges impacting the relationship between them and tax authorities.
This event looked at how certain tax authorities have risen to the challenges of digitalisation. Also, how businesses are affected by changes in the tax systems and tax authorities approach, and what they want to see in the tax systems of the future. European Commission’s representative took stock of EU-wide initiatives in this field.
