We support the European Commission’s efforts to assess the feasibility of a credit referral scheme. We already called for such a scheme in 2017 and this has become particularly pertinent in the post-COVID economy. We also recommend for the Commission to also include a credit mediation framework in a future scheme.

We encourage our members, 50 professional accountancy bodies in 35 countries, to respond to the Commission’s call for input and data, which closes on 30 April.

Accountants play a key role in helping SMEs access financing. They will also be pivotal in making sure that the pan-European scheme fulfills its full potential in helping SMEs.

We look forward to seeing the outcomes of this exercise, and will help the Commission to raise awareness on this important work.
