Members’ Engagement Day 2025 through our members’ eyes

Members’ Engagement Day 2025 through our members’ eyes

What makes our event worth the trip for member representatives and volunteers from 35 different countries?

When exploring the programme for our Members’ Engagement Day (MED), the Accountancy Europe team considers that each of our 49 member bodies is unique: in size, structure and professionals it represents. From auditors and accountants to tax advisors and management accountants, in the private and public sectors, our members operate under different national contexts and varying regulatory systems, which makes exchanging perspectives so valuable.

The challenge (and opportunity) is to make MED engaging for our richly diverse audience. This year,

  • Benjamin Angel, Director of the European Commission’s DG TAXUD, provided insights into the cooperative compliance project
  • our member bodies and the Global Public Policy Committee (GPPC) took the floor to share solutions and best practices on attracting and retaining talent
  • Lee White, CEO of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), reflected upon global standard development
  • our team led sessions on emerging policy trends, including their impact on the accountancy profession; and the future of ethics and assurance standard setting.

After the curtains dropped, we asked a few participants to tell us a valuable takeaway or benefit they gained from coming to MED on 15 October 2025.

Our audience speaks

Anca Tiura, Head of Marketing, Communication and International Relations at the Chamber of Financial Auditors of Romania

Anca was happy to witness how the profession is evolving: bridging tax and audit reforms; digital transformation; and new ways to reach the next generation. She said that accountancy may have a reputation for being dull, but it felt like “one of Europe’s most dynamic stories in the making” after MED.

I left with the sense that the future of the profession will be defined by courage – to simplify without losing our core, modernise on a grounded base, adapt without sacrificing quality… but maybe the most important: speak up and cooperate.

Sebastian Kuck, European Affairs Director at the Institute of Public Auditors in Germany

Sebastian praised the speakers and mentioned gaining valuable insights on EU policy (and how it affects the profession). He was also pleased to see participants agreeing that standard setting goes beyond issuance. To him, though, MED was about more than content.

Standard setting is finished only when the standards are taken up in practice. I felt that the profession is united in their call for post-implementation reviews. Agenda aside, it was great talking to colleagues in person again.

Maria Cauchi Delia, Chief Executive Officer at the Malta Institute of Accountants

Maria thought that attending MED was a fantastic opportunity to connect with peers from across the profession and exchange ideas. To her, the sessions sparked insightful conversations about challenges and opportunities ahead. She particularly appreciated sharing best practices and learning from one another.

The event also offered excellent networking opportunities, helping to strengthen professional relationships and stay in step with EU and global priorities. Experiences like this are essential for building a resilient, future-ready profession.

What we knew, confirmed

Accountancy Europe member representatives come to MED seeking access to in-depth discussions, share experiences and face-to-face connection with their peers. The event’s real value lies in the community, in exchanging ideas, tackling challenges and creating opportunities together.

That is what Accountancy Europe is built on: connecting member bodies, giving voice to the profession’s diversity and shared ambition to speak in one unique voice. Highlighting what unites us rather than divides us. We help shape the future of the profession in Europe and beyond through engagement and collaboration.
